FAQ – The Finery | Camano Island Wedding Venue

Camano Island, Washington

Your Questions,
Actually Answered

We're a small, hands-on venue run by real people. Here's what you actually want to know before reaching out.

The Finery is a five-acre outdoor wedding venue on the northwest side of Camano Island, Washington — nestled in secluded grounds surrounded by towering trees, established cottage gardens, and thousands of flowers grown right here on the property. We specialize in intimate celebrations: elopements, micro-weddings, and small weddings of up to 50 guests.

We're run by Lauren and Jeff. When you book with us, you work with us directly — not a rotating cast of event staff.

Wooded, lush, and genuinely beautiful. The grounds include established cottage gardens and over a thousand plants — including a peony garden that blooms each spring. We have flowers throughout the property in every season. The feel is refined outdoor, not rustic barn.

We have one primary outdoor ceremony site and one covered option for larger ceremonies or inclement weather. For smaller elopement groups of 15 or under, there may be other spots on the property worth exploring — just mention it when you reach out and we'll talk through what makes sense for your size and vision.

Getting ready spaces include a bridal suite with a full bathroom and a separate Groom's Hut — everything you need to arrive relaxed and ready. We also have a working greenhouse where we grow seedlings for our cutting gardens, a fun little bonus if you're into that kind of thing.

One thing worth noting upfront: we do not have a water view. We're surrounded by trees and gardens, not the Puget Sound. If waterfront is a priority for you, we'd rather tell you now than have you drive out here to discover it.

Honestly? Every season at The Finery has its own appeal — and we mean that. Summer brings full lush gardens and long golden evenings. Fall is moody and stunning, with the color change happening all around you and that distinctly PNW misty atmosphere that photographs beautifully. Even early spring has a quiet, intimate quality that some couples love.

But if you're asking what our personal favorite is: September. The gardens are still full and lush, the light is soft, there's no real chance of a heat wave, and it tends to be calmer all around. It's the sweet spot.

The peony garden blooms late spring through early summer if that's a priority for you — it's worth asking about timing when you inquire.

Early spring and winter are our quietest seasons — beautiful in their own right, but worth knowing if ambiance is a big deciding factor for you.

We love animals, but we do have a strict no-pet policy on the property. Please make sure your guests know in advance — it's one of those things that's much easier to communicate early than to sort out on the day of.

This is the most important thing to understand before you dive into pricing.

All-Inclusive Packages

  • Photographer, officiant, florals & cake included
  • Coordination handled by us
  • Up to 28 guests (not including the couple)
  • Designed to be low-stress by design
  • Traditional, Signature & Micro-Wedding tiers

DIY Wedding Rental

  • You source all vendors yourself
  • You hire your own day-of coordinator (required)
  • Up to 50 guests
  • 12 hours on property
  • Full creative freedom

Our all-inclusive packages exist because we believe the best wedding days are the ones where you're actually present for them — not mentally running a logistics checklist while someone's trying to say vows in front of you. If you want to hand the details to someone else and just show up and get married, that's exactly what these packages are built for.

If you have a very specific vision that requires total control over every vendor and detail, the DIY rental gives you that canvas. Just know they're genuinely different experiences — not just different price points. Once you're booked, we'll send over everything you need to know about how the day comes together. It's more straightforward than you think.

A simple 3-hour ceremony for just the two of you plus up to 6 guests (8 people total). Includes officiant, bouquet & boutonniere, petite cake, sparkling toast, and 3 hours of photography (~200 edited images). This package is offered exactly as listed — no adjustments. Weekdays only.

You handle food and beverages through our approved caterers. We handle everything else.

Optional add-on packages available: serveware ($399 + tax), décor ($399 + tax), and end-of-night cleanup ($500 + tax).

Not included: Photography, florals, catering, officiant, cake, day-of coordinator (required — you hire your own), and one-day event insurance (required).

50% of the base rental rate is due with your signed contract to secure your date. Remaining balance and $500 damage deposit are due 30 days prior. Damage deposit returned within 14 days after the event.

A signed contract and 50% of the base package rate are required to officially hold your date. That retainer is non-refundable, because holding your date means turning away other couples for that day.

The good news: you don't need to have every detail finalized at booking. Guest counts, add-ons, and the remaining balance are all due 30 days before your event — so there's plenty of time to sort the details after you've secured your date.

For the DIY Wedding Rental, a separate $500 damage deposit is also due at the 30-day mark and is fully refundable after your event assuming no damage or excessive cleaning.

Reach out through our contact form with your date and a little about what you're envisioning. We'll get back to you with availability and next steps. Dates go on a first-come, first-served basis — a signed contract and retainer are what hold it.

Summer and fall dates (May–October) book fastest — sometimes 6 to 12 months out. Off-season dates tend to have more flexibility. We do occasionally have last-minute openings, so if your timeline is tight, it's always worth asking.

For all-inclusive packages (Traditional, Signature, and Micro-Wedding), we don't offer in-person tours — and here's why that's actually a good thing.

Our all-inclusive packages are designed for couples who want a beautiful, simplified celebration without traditional wedding planning stress. Tours have a funny way of triggering "wedding planning mode" — that impulse to customize, rearrange, and layer in complexity. Our packages work beautifully as designed. The goal is for you to trust the process, not manage it.

Skipping tours also helps us keep our energy focused on executing flawless celebrations rather than scheduling and hosting walkthroughs — which ultimately keeps our pricing accessible and our events exceptional.

You can explore everything digitally: browse our photo galleries, read reviews from real couples, and reach out with as many questions as you need. We're here to help you feel completely confident before you book.

And here's something couples tell us often: arriving on their wedding day and seeing The Finery fully set up and ready for them — for the very first time — is one of the best moments of the whole day.

If you're considering our DIY Wedding Rental and need to see the space before committing, tours are available by appointment. Reach out and we'll find a time that works.

Guest counts vary by package. Here's how it breaks down — note that the couple is never counted in the guest numbers below:

  • Traditional Elopement: Up to 6 guests (couple + 6 = 8 people total)
  • Signature Elopement: Up to 28 guests (couple + 28 = 30 people total)
  • Micro-Wedding: Up to 28 guests at $75/person (couple + 28 = 30 people total)
  • DIY Wedding Rental: Up to 50 guests (couple + 50 = 52 people total)

All-inclusive packages are not available for guest counts above 28. If you're in the 29–50 range, reach out and we'll talk through your options.

Absolutely — and some of our favorite days have been exactly that. The Traditional Elopement is designed for just the two of you. No crowd, no production, no pressure. Just your moment in a beautiful setting with people who are paying full attention to you.

One practical note: Washington State requires two witnesses to sign your marriage license. If you're coming with just your partner, Lauren and your photographer are happy to serve as your official witnesses. It's taken care of.

We welcome both secular and non-secular ceremonies. Our officiants are experienced with a wide range of traditions and can work with whatever feels most meaningful to you.

For all-inclusive packages, the ceremony runs approximately 15 minutes — intentionally so. It keeps the focus on the moment itself rather than a lengthy production, and leaves room for everything else that makes the day special.

Yes — and we love when couples do. Personal vows make for a more meaningful ceremony and, honestly, better photos. Just keep the 15-minute ceremony timeline in mind for all-inclusive packages so everything flows smoothly on the day.

You're responsible for obtaining your own marriage license before your wedding day — we can't legally do that part for you, unfortunately. Here's what you need to know for Washington State:

  • You can get your license from any Washington State county — you don't have to get it in Island County or wherever the ceremony is held
  • Much of the application can be completed online through the WA State portal ahead of time, but both parties must appear in person to finalize it
  • There is a 3-day waiting period after issuance before the license is valid
  • The license is valid for 60 days
  • No blood test or Washington residency required
  • Cost is approximately $70 (cash or check)

We'll include detailed instructions and timing guidance in your planning documents once you're booked. Don't leave this one to the last minute!

First, a little context: Camano Island sits in what's known as the "banana belt" of the Pacific Northwest — we actually get significantly less rainfall than Seattle and much of the surrounding region. So the odds are more in your favor than you might expect.

That said, this is still the PNW. If the morning is overcast, we're not going to panic — that soft, moody light makes for stunning photos. But if it's genuinely soggy and heels are going to be sinking into the grass, we'll make the call to move the ceremony to our covered area. Both all-inclusive and DIY Rental events can work beautifully there. We'll never make you get married in the mud.

Weather contingencies are part of your planning conversation so there are no surprises on the day.

All packages include use of our outdoor sound system. For all-inclusive packages, we handle ceremony music — processional, recessional, first dance, and additional dances depending on your tier. The Micro-Wedding and DIY Rental include full tablet control of the house system during dinner so you can run your own playlist.

And yes — we do accept playlist submissions ahead of time. Partly because it means the music is exactly what you want, and partly because nobody should have to listen to whatever Lauren would put on without any input. You're welcome.

A few important notes on sound: due to local ordinance, no DJs are permitted. No outside amplification of any kind — no microphones, no amps, no speakers brought in. The venue space is intimate enough that you can be heard clearly without amplification, which means no awkward lapel mic moments either. Solo or acoustic musicians are welcome — we have a list of musicians who've played here before if you'd like recommendations.

We generally don't encourage first looks at The Finery — and here's our honest reason: there is something genuinely irreplaceable about the moment your partner sees you walking toward them for the first time. We've watched it happen over and over, and it never gets old. A first look gives you a private moment, but it trades away that real, unscripted reaction — and our photographers are very, very good at capturing it.

Logistics-wise, our timelines are also built to flow without a first look built in, so adding one creates a tight squeeze.

That said, if it's really important to you, reach out and we can talk through whether it's workable for your specific package and date.

Wear whatever makes you feel like yourself — that's genuinely the only rule. A few practical notes for The Finery specifically:

  • Footwear: The ceremony site is on grass and natural ground. Stilettos will sink. Wedges, block heels, flats, or something you can swap into after photos are all solid choices.
  • Layers: Even in summer, evenings on the island can get cool. A beautiful wrap or jacket photographs well and keeps you comfortable.
  • Your guests: Let them know they're coming to an outdoor property so they dress accordingly — especially for spring and fall events.

When you send us your inspiration photos, if you want input on how your vision will work in our specific setting, just ask. We've seen a lot of outfits in a lot of weather and are happy to give you an honest take.

For Micro-Wedding and DIY Rental packages, yes. You'll need to provide a certificate of Event Liability Insurance with $1,000,000 coverage, naming Evergreen Isle LLC dba The Finery and owners as additional insured. If you're serving alcohol beyond the included toast, $1,000,000 Host Liquor Liability is also required. This documentation is due 14 days before your event.

It's affordable and easy — Wedsafe is a straightforward option and can be purchased online. We'll remind you well before the deadline.

Traditional and Signature Elopement packages do not require event insurance.

All packages include a bouquet and boutonniere. The Micro-Wedding also includes additional table florals and décor as part of the dinner setup.

We work from inspiration photos you send us — so while the specific selections are made within your package budget, the aesthetic direction comes from you. Send us photos of what you love and we'll build from there. The more specific your inspiration, the better we can match it.

We also grow flowers throughout the property, and when seasonal blooms are available, we incorporate them into your arrangements — a detail that makes each event feel genuinely tied to this place.

All packages include a petite single-tiered cutting cake, sized to your guest count and decorated with fresh flowers to complement your florals for the day. Our standard is white cake with buttercream frosting and raspberry filling — and it's genuinely good.

If you'd like a different flavor, our baker can accommodate other options upon request — including vegan, gluten free, and dairy free. Like florals, we welcome inspiration photos so we can match the style and feel of your day. Just send them along when you submit your planning form.

For all-inclusive packages, photography is included and we work with a trusted group of photographers who know the property well. If you'd prefer to bring your own, that's allowed with a $300 deduction from your package price. Your photographer must work within your event timeline and follow our venue policies.

For the DIY Rental, you source your own photographer entirely.

Food is not included in any package — you coordinate that separately. A few things to know:

For Micro-Weddings: You must use one of our pre-approved caterers. These are vendors we've vetted, who know our space and timeline well, and who can work with a wide range of budgets, styles, and service formats. We've had fully plated dinners, buffets, and grazing boards — all work beautifully. There is no on-site cooking or refrigeration; caterers assemble and serve here but prep elsewhere. No open flame cooking in the catering area.

For casual options like pizza delivery, service is self-serve and you'd plan accordingly for things like cake cutting. We provide ice for chilling drinks only — not for service.

For DIY Wedding Rentals: All caterers must be fully self-contained — no on-site food prep, they bring all their own equipment. Food trucks are welcome for DIY Rental events. No open flame cooking in the catering area.

A sparkling wine or cider toast is included in all packages. Beyond that:

  • Micro-Wedding: Beer, wine, seltzers, and up to 2 pre-batched cocktails permitted with a banquet permit and event insurance.
  • DIY Wedding Rental: Beer, wine, and spirits permitted with a banquet permit ($25), event insurance, and a licensed bartender to serve.
  • Traditional & Signature Elopements: Sparkling toast only.

We'll walk you through exactly what's needed during your planning process — it's not complicated, just a few things to have in place before the day.

For all all-inclusive packages — Traditional, Signature, and Micro-Wedding — coordination is included. We handle it. You don't need to hire anyone.

For the DIY Wedding Rental, hiring a professional day-of coordinator is required — minimum 8 hours onsite, including end-of-night cleanup. And we do mean professional: this cannot be a family member or friend taking on the role as a favor. A professional coordinator knows how to manage vendors, keep a timeline, and handle the inevitable small fires that come up on a wedding day without involving you. It's one of the best investments you can make for a DIY event. We have a list of coordinators who've worked here before and know the property well.

We do — photographers, officiants, caterers, musicians, and coordinators who we've worked with, trust, and genuinely recommend. For all-inclusive packages, many of these vendors are already built into your experience. For DIY Rentals, our list is a great starting point so you're not starting from scratch.

Reach out and we'll share it.

All payments are non-refundable. If the date is rebooked at equal or greater value, a refund minus a $100 fee may be issued at our discretion. If The Finery cancels for any reason, all payments made to us will be refunded in full. The Finery is not liable for outside expenses or vendor costs.

We strongly recommend purchasing wedding/event insurance if cancellation is a real concern for you — it's affordable and covers scenarios well beyond what any venue policy can. Wedsafe and other providers offer comprehensive coverage that can protect your outside vendor costs as well.

We will do our best to accommodate date changes subject to availability. Any non-transferable deposits or fees already incurred are the responsibility of the couple — The Finery is not responsible for any impact on vendor availability or quality due to a date change.

Neither party is liable for failure to perform due to conditions beyond their control — including natural disasters, government restrictions, pandemics, public health emergencies, acts of war, or other unforeseeable circumstances that make the event impossible or illegal.

In the event of a force majeure situation affecting your event, we will work with you in good faith to either reschedule to a mutually agreed-upon date (subject to availability) or provide a refund at our discretion based on the specific circumstances and timing. The Finery is not liable for costs incurred beyond payments made directly to us, including travel, lodging, attire, or other vendor costs.

Again — this is exactly why event insurance exists. It's worth having.

About an hour north of Seattle — and no ferry required. Camano Island is connected to the mainland by a land bridge, so your guests just drive straight here. For a wedding day, not having to coordinate around ferry schedules is a genuinely big deal.

From I-5 north, take exit 212 toward Stanwood, cross the Camano Bridge onto the island, stay left at Terry's Corner (the "V"), turn right on Cross Island Rd, and follow it over the hill to the blinking stop sign. Turn right — The Finery will be on your right in about half a mile.

Closest airports: Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), or Paine Field in Everett, which is significantly closer.

There are great options at every price point and vibe:

  • Jenn's Rentals — local vacation rentals on Camano Island, great for groups who want to stay close and together
  • Airbnb & VRBO — plenty of options on the island and in Stanwood for all group sizes and budgets
  • Angel of the Winds Casino Resort (Arlington) — for guests who want a hotel with a little extra entertainment built in
  • Stanwood — the closest mainland town has additional hotel and lodging options for guests who prefer something traditional

If you want to make a full weekend of it, we also have vacation rental properties through our sister brand Shoreside Sanctuaries — two stunning coastal properties owned and run by the same people behind The Finery. Check out the Extend Your Experience page for details and availability.
